About Educational Data Science:
The Chair of Educational Data Science, led by Prof. Dr. Dipl.-Psych. Sven Hilbert, M. Sc., M. Sc. focuses on applying data science to the field of education. The teaching emphasis is on the methodological training and development of students in psychology, educational science, and teacher education.
Students and doctoral candidates acquire skills for conducting independent scientific work using methods from data science, particularly machine learning, and statistics.

Goal:
The goal of the project was to develop a clear and distinctive visual identity for the Chair of Educational Data Science that reflects its academic rigor, methodological focus, and forward-looking research approach. The visual system needed to communicate scientific credibility while remaining accessible to students, doctoral candidates, and interdisciplinary partners.
The identity had to work consistently across digital and print applications, supporting both formal university communication and modern digital teaching environments.

Challenges:
Translating abstract research into visual form
Educational data science combines psychology, statistics, and machine learning. Translating these complex and abstract topics into a cohesive visual language required balance between clarity and conceptual depth.
